Restoration of a Classic Snipe

Restoration of a Classic Snipe

John brought this 1940's Snipe to us so that we could complete the restoration he had started. The hull had already had a few planking repairs, and the centerboard trunk and deck framing had been rebuilt.

We replaced the deck, modified the transom, added the cockpit coamings, faired and sheathed the hull, painted the boat inside and out, and installed buoyancy bags and hardware.

It was a fun project, and we look forward to going for a sail when the weather warms up a bit.

Cutting the transom ports

These transom ports were rough cut with a jigsaw then finished with a template and router.

Plastic covers will be held against the transom by a bungee cord so that if swamped, most of the water can drain out of the transom.

Apparently Snipes are raced hard...

Flotation bags were fitted in the bow, cockpit and stern of the boat.
